VOICE/IAF message to politicians: one fairfax (Virginia)! Ambitious agenda drives major action5/20/2019 Metro IAF Metro IAF's V.O.I.C.E. Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement action on candidates to support vision: Over 625 VOICE leaders challenged four candidates running for board of supervisor chair to respond to VOICE’s vision of "One Fairfax” at Bethlehem Baptist on Sunday. VOICE leaders demanded action & lifted up specific solutions to do so, including:
1. Provide quality After-School & Summer Programming at Gum Spring Community Center and Title One Schools.
2. Fairfax must raise its affordable housing fund to $60M in new monies over the next 4 years. And, then to $120M in the next 10 years to ensure communities that have lived here for decades can continue to afford to do so AND to allow for anticipated population growth. 3. Provide Pre-K for all Fairfax 4-year-olds from low-income families. Over the past 5 years, Fairfax has left $13 million from the state on the table, funds that could have been put toward the creation of 862 needed preschool slots for 4-year-olds from low-income households. 4. Keep families together by making sure Fairfax immigrant residents have access to legal representation. Grow the current fund from $200,000 to the needed $875,000 per year. Immigrant Fairfax residents with access to legal representation are ten times more likely to not be separated from their families.
